Picnic Table Variations
An installation of 34 picnic table variations on a campus landscape. The picnic tables become mediators between people and the landscape.
Simple transformations of the traditional picnic table shape and location are used to express ideas or ask questions about the ways we know and experience a landscape.
Several of the tables are wrapped around trees, some partially buried and covered with sod, others collide into one another creating hybrid forms.
All tables are functional and used for sitting, reading, studying, playing, talking, and sometimes even picnicking.
